What We Build in Manhattan
Whether you need a new deck, a covered space to sit outside more of the year, a pergola, or new siding, the same crew handles it start to finish.

Decks
We build new decks in composite and pressure-treated lumber, and we handle full deck refurbishment on structures that are still sound underneath. TimberTech is the composite decking line we run almost exclusively in this market. Railings, stairs, and multi-level layouts are a normal part of the job for our crews.

Deck Covers & Screened Porches
A roof cover turns a deck into a space you can use through more of the year, whether it is built over a brand new deck or added onto one you already have. We also convert open decks into screened porches, keeping the bugs and weather out without closing the space in completely.

Pergolas
As a Heartland Pergolas dealer, we build pergolas in two materials: low-maintenance PVC or custom cedar for a more traditional, natural look. Heartland PVC pergolas hold up with very little upkeep and tend to clear HOA and architectural review smoothly, which matters in some of the area's retirement communities.

Siding
We install vinyl, fiber cement, and engineered wood siding, including the LP SmartSide line we are certified to install. Whether you are replacing worn or damaged siding or updating the look of an older home, we handle the project from tear-off to finish, with a material chosen to suit this climate.

Why Tallgrass
We are a family and locally owned construction company, and we have been building decks, covers, pergolas, and siding across Manhattan and the surrounding towns since 2015. Our crews bring over two decades of combined trade experience to every project, from a first deck to a full siding replacement.
We are a certified LP SmartSide installer and a Heartland Pergolas dealer, and TimberTech is the composite decking line we run almost exclusively. Those credentials are checkable, and they are part of why we can speak plainly about which materials make sense for your project and which do not.
Every estimate is free, and we handle the full permitting process on any project that needs one. We are licensed and insured, the way you would want a company handling your home to be. Kansas summers run hot and humid, winters bring hard freezes and thaws, and hail shows up most years, which is why the right material and a properly built structure are worth talking through before anyone picks up a hammer.

Where We Build

We build the same four services everywhere on this list: decks, deck covers and screened porches, pergolas, and siding, whether your project is in Manhattan, Junction City, Wamego, Riley, Westmoreland, or Alma. Some contractor sites make it look like certain services are only available in certain towns; that is not how we operate. The same crew travels to every town on this list, so what you can build depends on your property and your budget, not which town you live in.
Help Us Build Our Reviews
We are still building our review presence online. Right now, Facebook is where our reviews live. If we built your deck, your cover, your pergola, or your siding, we would genuinely appreciate a few minutes of your time to leave one there. It helps other Manhattan homeowners get a sense of the work before they call.
Common Questions
No. Every estimate is free, on every service line we offer. We come out, look at your property, talk through what you have in mind, and give you a real sense of what is involved. There is no cost and no obligation to move forward. We do not promise a specific turnaround, but reaching out is always the first step.
We build in Manhattan, Junction City, Wamego, Riley, Westmoreland, Alma, and the surrounding communities. It is the same four services everywhere on that list: decks, deck covers and screened porches, pergolas, and siding. See our full service area page for more detail on the towns we cover, or give us a call if your town is not listed.
We handle the full permitting process for you. Requirements vary by project and by jurisdiction, but as one example, the City of Manhattan requires a permit for a new deck, or for replacing an existing deck, when it sits more than 30 inches above the ground. We walk you through what applies to your specific project before work starts.
So the estimate you get is for the project you can actually build, not three or four bids across different materials that were never in your range to begin with. Telling us your budget up front means we can scope the visit around a plan you could really move forward with, instead of wasting your time or ours. That is time we would rather spend building.
First, we come out and look at your property in person. From there, we scope the project with you, and if a permit is needed, we handle that process too. Once everything is set, our crews build it. Warranties apply to specific products, and we spell out exactly what is covered on that service's own page, whether it's decks, siding, or something else.
